What is a serration type coupling used for?
A serration type coupling like the NBK MSF is a simple, reliable flexible shaft coupling for general-purpose motors such as those in mixers or gaming devices. Two hubs with interlocking tooth-shaped serrations engage a polyurethane sleeve; as they rotate the serrated profiles slide slightly, accommodating angular and lateral misalignment while damping torsional vibration and providing electrical insulation.
Features
- For general-purpose motors
- Good vibration absorption
- Accommodates angular and lateral shaft misalignment
- Electrical insulation
Overview
The serration type coupling is available in one general design. It consists of two hubs that accommodate a polyurethane sleeve. This coupling is well suited to general-purpose motors, as used in mixers or gaming devices.
Working principle
The MSF is a simple yet effective flexible shaft coupling delivering reliable torque transmission with good misalignment tolerance and vibration absorption. It features two hubs with matching tooth-shaped serrations that interlock along the coupling length.
Torque is transmitted through the engagement of these serrated teeth, creating a direct mechanical connection between driving and driven shafts. As the coupling rotates, the serrated profiles slide slightly against each other, accommodating angular and lateral misalignment while reducing torsional vibration.
Attachment types
The MSF is available as a set-screw type.
