Coupling for motion control

Cross-Joint Type Flexible Coupling (XUT)

Compact cross-joint coupling with high torsional stiffness, minimal backlash and symmetric CW/CCW characteristics for servo and stepper drives.

  • Cross joint type
  • Stepper motor
  • Servo motor
  • Vibration absorption
  • High torsional rigidity

When is a cross-joint coupling better than a slit or disc coupling?

Choose a cross-joint coupling like the NBK XUT when you need high torsional stiffness and identical clockwise and counter-clockwise behaviour with only minimal backlash. A precision pin-and-bush cross joint transmits torque while compensating angular, parallel and axial misalignment with small reaction forces on shafts and bearings. It suits stepper and servo motors where compact size and rotational accuracy matter.

Features

  • Excellent torsional stiffness
  • Minimal backlash through high-precision pin-and-bush fit
  • Identical clockwise and counter-clockwise characteristics
  • Excellent vibration absorption
  • Low shaft load from misalignment reduces stress on the shaft

Overview

The XUT cross-joint shaft coupling is available in one design (XUT-C). It focuses on high torsional stiffness and high torque, making it well suited to a range of motors including stepping and servo motors.

Working principle

Two hubs are connected by a central cross joint with precision pins and low-friction bushes, forming a compact, almost backlash-free mechanism. Torque passes through the pin-and-bush system, which allows controlled sliding to compensate angular, parallel and axial misalignment with minimal reaction forces on shafts and bearings.

The rigid yet flexible design ensures high torsional stiffness and stable rotational accuracy. Various sizes and material configurations meet different load capacities and application requirements.

Attachment types

The XUT is available as a clamping type (C).
